ReadyStart Engine and Large Wheels for Easy Operation
Thanks to its ReadyStart Briggs and Stratton 675 series engine, you won't have to worry about priming or operating the choke on the Lawn-Boy 10640. Simply start the engine with one quick pull, and you're ready to mow.
Large 7-inch front wheels and 8-inch rear wheels help the Lawn-Boy 10640 run smoothly, easily gliding around turns and over obstacles in your yard.
Versatile Cutting System Meets Your Needs
The Lawn-Boy 10640 is ready to mulch, bag, or side discharge, depending on your needs. Without the bag, the mower will mulch the grass and leaf clippings back into your lawn. Alternatively, you can collect the grass and leaf clippings directly into the bag, leaving your lawn neat and clean.
For further convenience, the height of the blades is easily adjustable by setting the oversized handle grips to one of the large notches on each wheel. There are 7 different heights available between 1 and 4 inches, so you'll be sure to find the perfect setting for your lawn.
Designed with You in Mind
Built with you in mind, the Lawn-Boy 10640 has plenty of user-friendly features. To start, a one-piece handle increases maneuverability, and the lightweight, 20-inch steel cutting deck is perfect for mowing in tight areas.
Additionally, the top-mounted bagging system makes it easy to empty and replace the bag by simply inserting or removing the grass bag handle from the two notches at the base of the mower handle.

 "So far So good." 2010-08-23
By Sandman (USA)
Well, like a lot of the reviews I wondered if this mower would start on one pull right out of the box(after putting the oil in, ofcourse)....IT DID! Before we all get too carried away I have only used it one time so far, but it started each time after one pull after I stopped to unload the bag. It is a basic mower; but what else do you need? The more you have on it the more there is to break and repair. My grass was not overly tall and the mower did a good job of depositing most of the clippings in the bag.

If I were going to be completely picky I would say that the bag never became completely full. A majority of the clippings stop near the front and makes it difficult for the mower to continue to fill up the bag. However, that is being critical and the mower did a good job on a lot of leaves that were in my back yard and will be a great help once fall comes around.

My major dissapointment came from the Amazon PRIME deal. I signed up for it to try it out during the trial period and ordered it on a Thursday with an expected delivery date on the following Monday. I did not get the mower until Wednesday. So much for two-day shipping. I will have to evaluate the $79.99 a year if the two-day shipping is really not two-day shipping. Also, FedEx placed the box in my driveway on its side....why would they set the box on its side instead of laying it down flat? Some liquid leaked out, but did not appear to effect the mower though.

"Nice mower shipped in box that couldn't take UPS abuse" 2010-08-07
By R. C. BOSIO (Michigan)
I lke my new lawnboy. It starts with one easy pull. I use the mulching feature and with its bigger engine than my last mower allows it to cut and mulch even when the lawn is pretty long. The only downside was the box it was shipped in, it wasn't heavy enough to take the abuse by UPS and one of the wheel height levers was damaged as it looked like the box was thrown off their truck somewhere along the line. It is amazing how UPS can they handle their packages arriving with the box damaged and all taped up, perhaps Amazon ought to review who they use for shipping.

 "Extremely disappointed" 2010-08-03
By Crabby C (Southern US)
I was ready to love this mower. Easy set up, the first few tries to start did not work as the cord didn't seem to "catch" when it was pulled. Finally it started up and what a great lawn mowing day that was!

A week and a half later, on my second attempt to use it, it will not start at all with plenty of oil, fresh gas, and a clean spark plug (I checked all of that). Pulling the cord is like pulling on a rope attached to a wall, there is no catch/give to it. 30+ pulls later it is sitting there like a bright green brick with a shiny new spark plug. "Hassle-free" my considerable behind. Very, very disappointed. Thankfully I didn't trust even the best reviews enough to buy it online--bought this at a brick and mortar store where it will be going back tomorrow.

"Trick bag on the "Warranty" Probably a good product if you don't need a warranty." 2010-07-14
By R. Hollenbeck (Missouri , Near STL)
I bought this item by mail because I did not want to drive all over gods creation. Product arrived. I added oil and gas as instructed. Mower ran for 2 minutes then threw a rod. Took it to two LawnBoy service centers (also Briggs & Stratton SC). Without any disassembly they both pronounced "It threw a rod". Well no joke! They said no sense in taking it apart.....warranty will not cover it. They will treat it as you did not put oil in it.

Notified Amazon...said they could not take it back because it was hazardous. Said get a claim number on the Warranty form Lawnboy if you can not get satisfaction.

Called Lawnboy again. They sent me somewhere else that was also another 50 miles from my house. I asked for claim number....they said must be looked at by service center first.

Again another service center would not dissemble.

Called Lawnboy back. Again no claim number.....suggested I take it over and over to service centers till I found one that would take it apart if I wanted a claim number.

Later without hope...I took small engine apart. Obviously had oil in it. All friction surfaces were clean and perfect except for crank/rod connection (If there was no oil other surfaces would be damaged as well).

Contacted Lawnboy and offered to send pictures, of course dis-assembly voids the warranty. And yet they still would not take my name and give me a claim number.

Thanks a lot Amazon for being part of the system that lets everyone turn there back on the customer and point at someone else.

"Super easy to start, runs with POWER" 2010-07-13
By L. Reinhart
My old mower died on me, and I was sick and tired of having to start and re-start it constantly. This Lawn Boy is now 4 for 4 on starts, one pull. On the first cut, my grass had been growing for about a month (since the old one died, half my lawn was uncut) and it was flawless. Didn't bog down at all. I am extremely happy with this mower.

Powerful 12-amp System Handles the Toughest Turf
When it comes to power, the Earthwise 12-amp Electric Lawnmower has plenty of it to go around. The powerful 12-amp system delivers consistent performance and eliminates tricky pull-starts and noisy operation, so you can have all the performance of a gas-powered mower without any of the hassles. And not only is this mower powerful, but it's also a zero-emissions tool, so you can get the job done while supporting the environment.
Designed to Save You Time and Effort over the Long Term
The wide 20-inch cutting path and heavy-duty steel mower deck ensure efficient, long-lasting performance. With wide 20-inch coverage, your lawn will require fewer passes, which will save you both time and effort.
Navigating tough, uneven terrain is made easy by the composite seven-inch front wheels and eight-inch rear wheels that feature ball bearings for better maneuverability and longer life. And the V-handle with cushion grip offers greater control over tough terrain and provides comfort. A nice bonus, the handle folds down to make storing your lawnmower easy.
Single-lever Height Control for Easier Adjustments
Instead of having to adjust each wheel when changing the height of the mower blade, the Earthwise 50120 Electric Mower features a single-lever height control system that makes it easier than ever to adjust the height of the cut. You can choose between seven height positions, ranging from 1-1/2 to four inches.
Single-lever height control is just one feature that makes the 50120 so easy to use. Other ease-of-use features include a handle-mounted safety-blade control, an easy on/off mulch plug for mulching, and a special cord hook for managing the power cord during operation. Additionally, no tools are required for assembly. Simply hand-tighten several components and you're ready to go!
Innovative 3-in-1 Design for Added Versatility
Outperforming other mowers, the Earthwise 50120 Electric Lawnmower is three mowers in one, functioning as a mulching mower, a side discharge mower, and a rear bag mower. As your lawn changes throughout the spring, summer, and fall, the 50120 will adapt to your yard's varied needs. You can mulch your grass in the spring to help thicken the lawn, or you can use the bag to clear leaves and debris in the fall--the choice is yours!
The Earthwise 50120 weighs 60 pounds, and it is backed by a two-year limited warranty from the manufacturer.

 "Love this Mower" 2010-08-23
By M. St Lawrence (Hawaii)
After about 15 years off from mowing lawns, moved into a house and decided to take the chore on again and didn't want the hassle with gas so did some research and opted for the Earthwise corded electric. Very happy with the choice. Plenty of power for my Bermuda lawn and it's so easy to start ... no gas smell, fumes or hassle. It took me exactly three mows to get the hang of the cord and now it's no big deal. The first one, however, was a little tricky to figure out. Haven't used the mulch or side discharge, just the bag and it works great. Nice thing is it's quite a bit less noisy than a gas machine ... big plus. So far so good. I've used it about 6 times so I can't comment on durability yet, but in terms of quality, it seems like a well built machine.

 "Earthwise mower" 2010-08-18
By Sean Serve
It is such a plesure not to have to deal with gas or with carbeuraters going bad. It took about 20 minutes to get comfortable with manual, operation and to assemble, set the cutting height, and found it easy to operate. Once I got into a routine with the extention cord, cutting the lawn was a breeze. Purchased the mower about a month ago and have only used the mulching attachment, so far very pleased. The yard is not that large so I was looking to buy another push mower. I shopped and compared mowers for 3-4 days and came across this particular Earthwise model and found it was the most reasonably priced mower that comes with the features I wanted; 12 amp motor, mulches, side discharge, and a grass bag. I occasionally cut the power cord but that is my fault and not the mower.

 "BIG Mistake" 2010-08-18
By Modernist (Northern California)
Used this mower for the first time today and did not have a good experience. I read a lot of reviews about this mower and it seemed like it would be a good choice, but after receiving it and using it, I believe it was a big, heavy, and costly mistake. After this one use, I am ready to send it back, but am not excited about paying $50+ for return shipping. Not even sure I can return it, since I used it, so I may resort to selling on Craig's List.

I have a pretty small grass area and had been using a manual reel mower, but thought an electric mower would be faster, give a better cut and get closer to the edges (I have 2 retaining walls, some stepping stones and a small deck to maneuver around). Well it is not faster, and although it did cut more evenly than my reel mower, it did not get much closer to the edges. After reading reviews again tonight, I agree that because the controls, height adjustment and knobs stick out beyond the wheels, if you have anything to pass you cannot get closer than 2", so there was still extra clipping with my grass shears.

Pros:

- Easy to start

- Cuts longer seed heads better than reel mower

- Bags reasonably well

Cons:

- HEAVY... manual lists it at 48 lbs, but my daughter weighs over 50 and I can pick her up, but not this mower.

- Hard to maneuver... Don't expect this mower to turn around well as you are trying to manage your extension cord. There is a diagram in the manual which shows how you mow back and forth starting from the point closest to your outlet and moving away. They say to never mow in a circle (I did not do this). However it is almost impossible to make a U-turn as shown in the manual. I had to start and stop it a lot because I just could not get it to turn. So while it is easy to start, I can see the switch going out soon if I continue this start/stop method. It also slows down any mowing. The only other method I found to work, but do not like to use, is to lift the front wheels and rotate the mower, thus popping a "wheelie" and then setting it back down to go in the other direction. While I did not see this as a potential hazard in the many safety warnings, it sure does not seem like a good technique to me. Granted I am not a large person, but I found it is impossible to turn without shutting it off or doing the "wheelie" method.

- Hard to store... It is large [i.e. BIG mistake) and as already mentioned heavy. The so called folding handle is a joke. Poorly designed US product, made in China. The handle is in 2 parts, but in order to fold either or both of them, you have to unscrew the knobs and then squeeze the metal handles so they are smaller than the attachment point and then rotate it. Not only is this an acrobatic feat, but I don't consider it folding unless it has a built in hinge not requiring you to unscrew a part. Also because it is so heavy there is no way to hang it up on hooks in the garage so make sure you have plenty of floor space. Need extra room if you can't lift it because again it is not easy to maneuver on the wheels. Bag attachment needs to be stored separately.

- One way mowing only... The manual suggest you never mow in reverse, which is not always possible when the mower is so hard to maneuver. I turned off the mover if I needed to back up, but the flimsy plastic guard will catch and make it hard to back up, even with the mower off, so I had to lift the back wheels.

- Bag catcher drags... I really wanted a mower with a bag feature as our yard waste is composted and did not want the clippings left on the grass. I did not experience the problem of not being able to bag the clippings, although not all of it does get into the bag. However, what I did find was that the bag would get heavy quickly and then it would start to drag on the ground and make the mower even harder to turn. I have a 600 sq. ft lawn (rye grass) and had to empty the bag 3 times during my mow. Not because it was full, but just weighed down the back. I also noticed when i was cleaning the mower after I finished that the bag already shows wear from rubbing on the ground and I could see it needing to be replaced in a few months.

- Cord holder is too small for 12 gauge extension cord recommended for mower.

- Pretty loud... not much quieter than a gas mower.

- Packing box has a strange mint like toxic smell to it. Possibly lubricant??? It is an electric mower and marketed as a green alternative, but the box sure stinks!

OVERALL:

Would not recommend for a small lawn with any sort of obstacles. SunJoe or Razarsharp look like better options now.

p.s. If you order the mower from Amazon with Free Super Saver Shipping, expect to wait 10 days for the mower and then a few more days for the extension cord which was shipped separately.

 "Quiet, Good, No Gas" 2010-08-12
By Pete Sapadin (Corona, Ca)
It's strange when you first start this lawnmower up because it is so quiet. The first mow after setting it up was fun, but not a breeze due to my lawn being a bit longer than usual. I also probably had the guide set to cut too low. After the first cut, I adjusted the height to the middle notch and it was really easy to get thru the lawn. Even though the first time was a bit tough, it had great results. Nice even cut. We opted to use it with the mulch attachement instead of bagging up the clippings. Lawn mavens claim that it's healthier for the lawn, I claim that it's a lot easier than emptying the bag over and over again.

Power cord management is similar to vacuuming. It takes some getting used to, but it's not hard.

I'm sure that a gasoline mower has more power and can get thru lawns a bit quicker than the Earthwise 50120, but it's powerful ENOUGH and it's almost a pleasant experience to mow the lawn because it doesn't sound like a chainsaw convention

Bottom line: It does a very nice, even, precise job. It's quieter than most vacuum cleaners and for an added bonus, there's no gasoline involved.

I give it four stars, and two short beeps the next time I drive over a bridge.

 "Yes, it's a real lawnmower" 2010-08-06
By djbrady105
I inherited a Craftsman gas mower from the previous owners of my house. It did a fine job for 8 years, but recently went to lawnmower heaven. My searching brought me to Amazon, and this unit. Based on a majority of positive reviews, and the fact I only have 1/3 acre, I decided to go for it. First major plus was free Super Saver shipping. It showed up in a big box 3 days later, and I used it first time this past weekend. I was concerned about it being electric, since I've never used one before. What a pleasure. This is a real lawnmower. It was definitely less noisy than the gas one, and I didn't have to wear my hearing protection. It mowed my lawn equally as good as the old mower. It was also lighter and easier to push around my lawn. Even with one hand. I wasn't concerned about dealing with the extension cord because I do that every year with the leaf blower. Earthwise built a quality product with a good gauge of metal, and, for a lawnmower, it's attractive. I'm very happy with my purchase, and I hope to use this one for years also.
